Evergreen Nursery is a full-service plant nursery in Farmington, NM, with more than 44 years of experience helping local gardens, yards, and landscapes thrive. Our story began with houseplants, bedding plants, and a practical belief that good plants should be matched with good advice. Today, we offer outdoor trees and shrubs, perennials, annual flowers, hanging baskets, vegetable and herb starts, tree planting, and delivery services. Through every season, our goal has stayed the same: help our customers find healthy plants that fit their space, their budget, and the way they actually garden.
Our Roots Started With Houseplants
Before Evergreen Nursery became the Farmington nursery people know today, the original owners started the business in Santa Fe as a house plant growing operation. At first, the focus was supplying chain stores like K-Mart with quality plants that could brighten homes and retail spaces.
Over time, the business grew into something more personal. The original owners expanded into selling house plants, bedding plants, flowers, and vegetables directly to the public. That shift mattered because it brought the work closer to the people who were planting, watering, learning, and trying to make something grow. We still carry that same spirit today.
Growing Into Farmington
In 1981, the original owners expanded the operation to Farmington, which was a rapidly growing community at the time. Dan was hired as the manager of the Farmington location, and the business began to take on a larger role in the local gardening community.
As customer needs grew, so did our selection. Trees and shrubs were added, and Evergreen Nursery became a regular retail nursery with more ways to support homeowners, gardeners, and landscapers. In 1987, one of the original owners stepped away, and Dan bought the Farmington nursery for himself. That moment turned Evergreen Nursery into a locally rooted business with a long-term commitment to the community we serve.
A Nursery That Adapts With the Market
The nursery market is always changing, and we have learned to change with it. One example is the availability and pricing of trees in 15-gallon pots. In recent years, those trees have become harder to find or too expensive, partly because the New Mexico Department of Transportation does not allow them to be shipped from some of the most cost-effective suppliers.
Instead of simply passing those costs on to our customers, we found a better way. We buy trees in smaller containers and grow them out into 15-gallon pots ourselves. It takes more time and effort, but it allows us to offer larger, healthier trees at a lower cost than we otherwise could. That is the kind of practical problem-solving we believe in.

When people visit Evergreen Nursery, we want them to feel comfortable. We do not believe in hovering, pressuring, or rushing anyone into a decision. Our approach is simple and low key. We greet customers, ask whether they need help or are just browsing, and give them space to look around. If they have questions about growing conditions, materials, planting, watering, or plant selection, we do our best to provide useful information.
Some customers come in knowing exactly what they want. Others are trying to figure out what will survive in their yard. Both are welcome here. We believe good service means being available without being pushy.
